Halloween Horror Watches

Whelp if you are reading this and saw that title your first thought was likely "It's September what are you talking about" which is fair. The last several years I have attempted a "31 Day Halloween" challenge or whatever, but the fact is due to life watching that many movies (or engaging in related media) in that time frame just does not work for me.

So I have decided to fully embrace the "September is Halloween Eve" meme vibe and start the marathon early. Hell, I have already decorated for Halloween so why not? With that I will be updating this post over the next two months with what I have watched, played, read, etc. for Halloween this year.

1: The Conjuring Part 2

I have a lot of thoughts about The Warrens, James Wan, and just The Conjuring Universe overall. The short, I don't want to get into all that, version is this movie isn't bad. LOL

2: Red State

I will say to me this movie stretches the definition of horror (even though it is undeniably horrific) however that is really not all that important. This movie is filled with amazing performances, remains sadly relevant, and is a decent movie overall. Although I have to wonder if whoever decided to label it as a "horror comedy" like Smith's other works even watched the damn movie.

3: Tusk

So a quick note- Fuck A24 and their pro-AI stance. I kind of want to put a block on all of their movies, but I frankly forgot this one was one when I got it in my mind that I really wanted to rewatch. It's old enough that it's not part of their new bull but still, I refuse to promote them and their attacks on art. If you want to watch this movie, try to track down a used DVD or something. That being said... this really is a solid and messed up movie. Like it just keeps coming at you in so many different ways. Excellent callout of "ironic" hateful guys, disturbing body horror, and somehow manages to make something that should come off as funny in its ridiculousness truly terrifying. shudder

4: The Relic (1997)

It's a creature feature set in a museum, there is simply no reason for this not to be a more popular 90s classic.

5: Tales from the Crypt- Only Skin Deep

The only Halloween episode from the series apparently. Not a requirement but I was curious. Still haven't made my way through the whole show. Fine episode, Tales is what it is (which isn't bad but you know...)

6: Halloween H20

So quickly getting it out of the way, I do not care for this franchise overall nor the Laurie and Michael being siblings plotline. Halloween is a great movie but the franchise is... oof. Still H20 has that 90s/00s vibe I do love from slashers and it's not the worst of the lot

7: Tales from the Crypt- The Thing from the Grave

Oh hey, Teri Hatcher! It's a decent episode

8: Tales from the Crypt- The Ventriloquist's Dummy

I appreciate that this episode did something different(ish) with ventriloquist dummy horror, even if it is one of silliest episodes I've seen. Okay though and interesting to see Don Rickles and Bobcat Goldthwait together.

9- 20: Various Bob's Burgers Halloween episodes

Stay tuned for thoughts ^_^

21: Masters of Horror- Pick Me Up

So this is turning into a lot more episodes than planned LOL. I really love this one though. Horror regular Fairuza Balk becomes the obsession for two different serial killers. With Michael Moriarty giving a killer performance (heh) as one of them. It has a few pacing issues (a lot of MoH did) and more than a touch of horror sexism, but is overall a solid episode and one of my faves.
